Corporate News : SAMSUNG Honors Maryhurst Children's Home with Hope For Children Channel Award

Kentucky Child Welfare Agency to Receive $10,000 worth of Samsung Technology Thanks to SLYN Systems & Peripherals

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J., March 12, 2012 – Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, today announced that Maryhurst, a children’s home and foster care agency in Louisville, Kentucky, as the latest winner of the Samsung’s Hope for Children Channel Award. They will receive $10,000 worth of technology from Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. SLYN Systems & Peripherals (SS&P), Louisville's longest running personal computer dealer and service center, nominated them for the award.

For almost 170 years, Maryhurst has cared for children and families in greatest need. Founded by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in 1843, Maryhurst is the oldest operating child welfare agency in Kentucky. The Sisters provided a caring environment for girls who suffered physical, emotional and sexual abuse as well as homelessness. Recognized as one of the few agencies in the country capable of caring for teenage girls who are among the most traumatized victims, Maryhurst helps those who have nowhere else to turn for healing and hope and is commited to providing them with permanent homes. In December 2011, Maryhurst was featured for the second time in five years by ABC News with Diane Sawyer as a model for best practices in foster care.

“We provide daily care for nearly 200 children and teens through our residential treatment program for teenage girls, group home settings for teen girls, therapeutic foster care and transitional living services,“ said Julie Roberts, Maryhurst’s vice president of development and communications. “We need to raise at least $2 million every year just to keep our doors open, so much needed technology upgrades tend to get pushed down the list. Samsung’s Hope for Children award will allow us to purchase the technology we so desperately need to better connect our foster care program with our network of volunteers and we would like to thank both Samsung and Jeff at SS&P for coming together to make this possible.”

“I’m truly happy that as a local small business owner we are able to help out in some small way,” said Jeff Slyn, owner of SLYN Systems & Peripherals. “Maryhurst is a wonderful program that I have been volunteering at for years and I can’t tell you how great it felt to see them win this award. Samsung is an amazing organization that I have had a terrific relationship with as a reseller and this award is really just icing on the cake.”

Samsung’s Hope for Children Channel Award is part of Samsung’s Partners in Innovation channel program announced in 2011. It invites Samsung resale partners to nominate worthy local education institutions through the program’s online portal, Partner Central. Selections are then made by an executive panel and the donation is made on behalf of the selected partner.

“Samsung’s whole Partners in Innovation program is built off a platform that helps us learn more about the the needs of our partners and the communities they serve. Providing this Hope for Children Channel Award to such a deserving program closely integrated with one of our partners is a great example of that,” said Richard Hutton, director of channel marketing for Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “We look forward to working with Julie and the folks at Maryhurst to determine what Samsung technology is going to help improve their daily lives the most.”

The Hope for Children channel awards are part of Samsung’s larger Hope for Children program which was developed with a strategic focus on programs dedicated to helping children share the wonder of life, learning and the planet. Since 2002 Samsung and its retail and business partners have raised more than $30 million for more than 400 schools, community-based foundations and charities throughout the U.S.
